FAQs

Ava Mind is an innovative mental health app designed to provide users with on-demand emotional support. It aims to help bridge the gap between therapy sessions or as an introduction to mental health support. At its core, Ava Mind leverages AI-powered tools to offer personalised mental health guidance, ensuring users feel supported whenever needed.
No, Ava Mind is not meant to replace traditional therapy. Instead, it aims to complement therapy by providing on-demand emotional support between sessions or as an introduction to mental health care. With features like Ava, our AI therapeutic assistant, the app supports day-to-day well-being. For serious or long-term issues, professional therapy remains essential.
Our AI therapeutic assistant Ava, understands your needs through advanced technologies like Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning. When you interact with Ava, the AI analyses your responses to detect emotional cues, such as stress, anxiety, or low mood. Ava Mind’s AI does not store or process unnecessary information, focusing solely on providing real-time, personalised support based on your emotional responses.
Ensuring your privacy is protected is of the utmost importance to us, which is why Ava Mind collects minimal data from your interaction history with Ava. The data is used solely to enhance your experience within the app, and you have full control to modify or delete your information at any time. Ava Mind will never share your data with third parties unless required by law or with your consent.
Ava Mind is free to download and easy to use, making mental health care more accessible to everyone. Through its personalised approach, the app aims to empower individuals to take control of their mental well-being, in between therapy sessions or as an introduction to mental health support.
Ava Mind provides personalised mental health support through Ava, our AI therapeutic assistant. Ava offers real-time emotional guidance, suggesting evidence-based techniques such as mindfulness exercises and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) strategies to help users manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. Additionally, the app provides self-care guidance to encourage healthier mental habits and routines, and it offers access to a wide variety of mental wellness resources like articles and expert advice on topics such as sleep, stress, and emotional resilience. While Ava Mind is not a replacement for therapy, it offers a convenient and supportive tool for managing your mental well-being.
Yes, absolutely! Ava Mind is designed to complement your ongoing therapy. The app provides real-time emotional support through Ava, which can enhance your therapy work. Using Ava Mind between sessions helps you stay on track with your mental health goals, manage stress, and monitor your emotional progress.
Yes, you can! Ava Mind now allows users to search for and connect with licensed therapists directly through the platform. You can browse profiles, learn more about each therapist’s specialties, and book sessions with the professional that best suits your needs. We're here to make finding the right support simple and accessible.
If you have a complaint about a therapist, we recommend addressing it directly with them first. All therapists are required to have a complaints procedure in place as part of their professional obligations. You can also contact the professional body they are a member of (e.g., BACP, UKCP) for further support or to file a formal complaint. It’s important to note that AvaMind operates as a marketplace, connecting users with therapists. We do not provide or oversee the therapy sessions, and the relationship between you and your therapist is independent of AvaMind. While we strive to list qualified professionals, we are not responsible for the actions or services provided by individual therapists.
No, Ava Mind’s AI cannot provide crisis intervention or emergency support. However, the app offers access to a list of helplines and emergency resources that you can contact in times of crisis. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, we strongly encourage you to reach out to professional helplines or emergency services for immediate help. Ava Mind is designed to provide daily emotional support and guidance, but for urgent or critical situations, it’s important to seek direct assistance from trained professionals.
Ava Mind provides general emotional support for managing stress, anxiety, and everyday mental health challenges, but it may not be suitable for all mental health conditions, especially severe or complex cases. While Ava offers coping strategies, the app is not a substitute for professional therapy or medical treatment. For conditions like clinical depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia, it’s important to seek specialised care from a licensed mental health professional. Ava Mind can serve as a helpful supplementary tool but is not intended to replace expert care.
No, Ava is much more than a generic chatbot. Ava is an AI-powered therapeutic assistant that uses CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and reflective therapy techniques, similar to those a therapist might use. These techniques are designed to help you explore your thoughts, identify patterns, and develop actionable steps to improve your mental well-being. Ava also helps you connect with qualified mental health professionals and can identify moments when speaking to a professional may be beneficial. While Ava doesn’t replace therapy, it provides meaningful, professional-grade support to complement therapy or assist you whenever you need it.
Ava Mind is now available on both iOS (Apple devices) and Android via Google Play! You can download the app on your preferred device and start exploring everything AvaMind has to offer. We’re also working on a web platform to make Ava Mind even more accessible—stay tuned for updates!
Ava Mind requires UK therapists to provide proof of membership in a recognised professional organisation (e.g., BACP, UKCP, APA) or equivalent credentials, and to be Level 4 or 5 qualified (or equivalent) to list themselves on the platform. While we are working on verifying therapists’ credentials, some therapists may not yet have been fully verified. This doesn’t mean they aren’t qualified—it simply means we haven’t had the opportunity to complete the verification process. Currently, trainee therapists or those seeking supervised hours are not eligible to join as listed professionals. However, we are exploring ways to support them in the future, such as connecting them with supervisors or helping them gain the experience they need.
Not all therapists on Ava Mind have been verified yet. While we are actively building our verification process, you can still connect with therapists who meet your search criteria. If a therapist hasn’t been verified yet, it doesn’t mean they’re not qualified—it simply means their credentials haven’t been reviewed by us at this time.
We’re actively working on expanding our verification process to include therapists from more countries. Our priority is to ensure we have the infrastructure and processes in place to responsibly verify qualifications and professional memberships unique to each country. In the meantime, international therapists are welcome to join Ava Connect, our professional hub, where they can access tools, resources, and networking opportunities. While they cannot currently be publicly listed, joining Ava Connect ensures they’ll be among the first to benefit when we expand into their region. Stay tuned for updates as we grow!
Verified therapists will have a badge or note on their profile indicating that their credentials have been reviewed and approved by Ava Mind. For therapists without this badge, you can still view their qualifications and professional memberships as listed on their profile.
Yes, you can connect with therapists based outside of the UK, provided they meet our verification criteria. Therapists listed on Ava Mind must hold UK-recognised qualifications and be registered with a UK professional body, even if they are based abroad. This ensures that therapists supporting UK clients remotely adhere to the same standards of training, ethics, and client care as those located within the UK.
Yes, the app is already available worldwide on the App Store. However, the therapist listing feature is currently limited to professionals with UK-recognised qualifications and registration with UK bodies. This restriction ensures we can verify therapists to maintain high standards of practice and protect users. International expansion is a key goal for Ava Mind, but we are prioritising responsible growth. We’re working on building the necessary infrastructure to verify therapists in other regions to uphold the same level of safety and quality worldwide.
If you’re a therapist who doesn’t hold UK-recognised qualifications or registration with a UK membership body, you can still join Ava Connect, our professional hub. While you won’t be able to create a public listing at this time, Ava Connect offers networking opportunities, resources, and access to future tools. By joining now, you’ll be at the front of the queue when we expand to support public listings for therapists with qualifications from other regions. We’re committed to expanding responsibly and look forward to welcoming more therapists worldwide in the near future. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to grow.
